PUF Festival 2024 - Pula, Istra
The first international theater festival was inaugurated on July 1, 1995, and received its final name, International Theater Festival PUF (Pula Alternative Festival), in 1996.
The essence of PUF was defined almost manifestly by the artistic director of the festival, Branko Sušac: "PUF is a festival of theatrical diversity and openness with a sincere theatrical experience. It attracts different poetics, questions new theater directions and gathers artists and spectators around the very idea of theater. PUF establishes and encourages dialogue, providing an opportunity for polemics. PUF serves as a communication channel, offering the world from a new perspective: not monologue and passive communication, but dialogue, openness, recognition and participation. PUF wants to erase the border between life and theater and develop the inner reality of each participant in the process, which we can call both theater and life."
At the first PUF in 1995, only one foreign theater company performed, but the second edition of the festival established the standard of six foreign plays. To date, plays from Belgium, Germany, Norway, Italy, the Netherlands, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Denmark, the USA, Spain, Great Britain, Switzerland, Slovenia, Austria, Poland, Hungary, Russia, Macedonia and Japan!
PUF brings fresh theater and dance productions and co-productions from the region, Europe, and beyond to Pula again this year, which will touch and shake you with intimate confessions and critical observations of current social phenomena.
